In a groundbreaking initiative to foster peace and inclusivity, the Selfless Compassion Initiative (SCI) participated in a transformative three-day training program organized by the Women’s International Peace Centre.
The training, held under the auspices of the Women’s Situation Room Uganda project, aimed to equip women peace mediators with essential skills in conflict prevention and resolution.
This initiative is particularly timely as Uganda prepares for the 2026 elections, a period often marked by heightened political tensions and community conflicts.
The training brought together representatives from Arua City and Arua District, with SCI standing out as the only Civil Society Organization (CSO) in attendance.
The program, supported by the Embassy of Ireland in Kampala, focused on empowering women to play a pivotal role in maintaining peace during the upcoming elections and beyond.
Introducing the Women’s Situation Room Mechanism: Participants were familiarized with this innovative approach to conflict resolution, which emphasizes the role of women in mediating and preventing conflicts.
Strengthening Skills in Conflict Prevention and Resolution: Through interactive sessions, women peace mediators gained valuable knowledge and practical skills to address and resolve conflicts in their communities.
Creating Networks of Women Peace Advocates: The training aimed to establish a robust network of women peace advocates across selected districts, fostering collaboration and shared learning.

The Women’s International Peace Centre has pledged to establish a Women’s Situation Room in the Arua region, further solidifying the commitment to peace and conflict resolution. SCI is excited to partner with these newly trained mediators, who will serve as a vital support system for the organization’s community initiatives.
As we move closer to the 2026 elections, the role of women peace mediators cannot be overstated. SCI is committed to supporting these brave women as they work tirelessly to ensure peaceful elections and harmonious communities. Together, we can build a future where peace and inclusivity prevail.
